Frequently asked questions

The pool bean bag that keeps its colours

The Jumbo UV Swimming keeps the format and the buoyancy of the Jumbo Swimming — 130 × 170 cm for 380 litres, filled with 100 % virgin polystyrene beads — but changes its skin. Its cover is made of Sunbrella® 100 % solution-dyed acrylic canvas, backed with a PVC grid that lets water drain away.

Solution-dyed means the pigment goes into the fibre while it is being made, rather than being applied to the surface: the colour is part of the yarn. That is what earns this fabric a 5-year guarantee against fading, and a far quicker drying time than a standard mesh cover.

Please note: a floating bean bag is a leisure accessory, not a safety device. It is not a substitute for a buoy, nor for supervising a child in the water.

Frequently asked questions about floating bean bags

What is the difference between the Jumbo UV Swimming and the Jumbo Swimming?

The format is identical — 130 × 170 cm for 380 litres — and so is the buoyancy. What changes is the fabric: the Jumbo Swimming has a honeycomb polyester cover, affordable and soft, which eventually fades under prolonged exposure and takes one to several days to dry. The Jumbo UV Swimming has a Sunbrella solution-dyed canvas cover, guaranteed 5 years against fading, which dries very quickly. It is the model to choose if the bean bag stays outdoors all season.

Is a floating pool bean bag really unsinkable?

Yes, provided its cover lets water through instead of holding it in. The Jumbo UV Swimming combines a canvas backed with a PVC grid, which drains water away, with a filling of 100 % virgin polystyrene beads: the bean bag stays on the surface and does not soak up water. Pool bean bags with a solid cover eventually fill up and sink.

Does Sunbrella fabric fade in the sun?

That is exactly what it resists. Sunbrella canvas is solution-dyed: the pigment is built into the acrylic fibre as it is made, instead of being applied to the surface. The colour therefore does not wash out or wear off under exposure, and the fabric is guaranteed 5 years against fading. That is the fundamental difference with a surface-dyed polyester cover.

How long does the Jumbo UV Swimming take to dry?

Quickly. Acrylic canvas does not soak up water the way a sponge-like mesh fabric does: after swimming, the bean bag can be used on the ground shortly afterwards, without waiting for the filling to dry. That is the other practical benefit of solution-dyed fabric, alongside colour retention.

Does a floating bean bag withstand chlorine and salt?

Yes. Jumbo Bag fabrics are tested to withstand chlorine and salt, so the bean bag can be used in a treated pool as well as in sea water. After swimming, rinsing with clean water is still recommended, to remove the residues that dull fabrics over time.

How many people can a floating bean bag hold?

On the Jumbo UV Swimming the limit is space, not buoyancy: at 130 × 170 cm it comfortably seats two adults. Flotation comes from the polystyrene bead filling rather than an air chamber, so there is nothing to deflate and no loss of buoyancy over time. A reminder: it is a leisure accessory, not a safety device.

Can the cover of a pool bean bag be washed?

Yes, the cover of the Jumbo UV Swimming is fully removable: it comes off the filling to be machine washed at 30 °C, then goes back on. The inner cover is microfibre polyester. The fabric is Oeko-Tex Standard 100 certified, meaning tested against harmful substances. After swimming, a rinse with clean water is enough to remove chlorine or salt.

Can the cover be replaced on its own?

Yes. The Jumbo UV Swimming Cover is sold separately, in the 130 × 170 cm / 380 litre format: it fits back onto the existing filling. It is also the cover that lets you upgrade a standard Jumbo Swimming to a UV-resistant canvas, since both models share the exact same format.

What are the dimensions of the Jumbo UV Swimming?

The Jumbo UV Swimming measures 130 × 170 cm with a filling volume of 380 litres, the same format as the Jumbo Swimming. It is a two-seater you can stretch out on in the water, and it remains usable on the ground, on the poolside or the terrace. It comes in several colours.

Does the filling of a floating bean bag go flat over time?

It all comes down to bead quality. The filling is made of virgin polystyrene beads expanded in two stages: they do not crush and spring back to their round shape, which keeps the comfort over time. That is what sets them apart from the recycled or ground beads used in entry-level products, which have no resilience. If needed, the filling can be topped up: a 380-litre bead refill is sold separately.

How should a pool bean bag be stored over winter?

Store it dry and under cover. Before storing, make sure it is completely dry, filling included: take the cover off and turn the inner cover over from time to time to finish drying. A bean bag stored while still damp is exposed to odours and marks.

What is the difference between a pool bean bag and a standard outdoor bean bag?

A standard outdoor bean bag is water-repellent: it withstands rain but is not designed to be submerged. A pool bean bag is designed to float over time: its cover is permeable so water drains away, and its filling is chosen for buoyancy. Using a standard outdoor bean bag in a pool soaks it and distorts its shape.

How much does a floating pool bean bag cost?

The floating pool bean bag market ranges from around thirty euros for inflatable models to over 300 € for high-end branded bean bags. The price of this model, its available colours and customer reviews are shown at the top of this product page.
